From the Rectory
Well, we had to wait but finally Summer arrived. What a glorious few weeks of summer weather we have had. Sadly the Rectory garden has been scorched. The one apple on the tree fell off and the runner beans produced nothing but disappointment. We are moving towards Autumn now and all of the seasons delights that will come with it. Each season is so distinct in this wonderful country of ours, and I enjoy all of them in their various guises. God has provided us with a rich tapestry in creation and the hedgerows at this time of the year bear witness to his abundant giving. Blackberries, rose hips and crab apples weight down the branches on the roadside, sadly few make use of this bounty. Lila, our granddaughter, aged 5, was with us for a week this summer holiday and I took her to pick blackberries along the railway line. She was more interested in collecting sticks but enjoyed eating the blackberries!
These verses from the Old Testament, the Book of Joel express these thoughts very well.
Do not fear, O soil;
be glad and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things!
Do not fear you animals of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness are green;
the tree bears its fruit,
the fig tree and the vine give their full yield………
You shall eat plenty and be satisfied,
and praise the name of the Lord your God,
who has dealt wondrously with you.
Many of you have asked about what will happen when I retire. I am unable to say anything very much because I am prevented from having any input, and rightly so. What I can tell you is that the ‘wheels’ have been put in motion and a framework put in place by the Diocese. The Church Wardens and the PCC, along with all of you need to be patient. When the Bishop and Archdeacon are ready they will, I’m sure, put all of you in the picture. There is a process and the Church has to abide by it. As we all know the Church can move very slowly at times, ‘In God’s Time’, and so on. Nothing much will happen until I actually leave. However the fact that the diocese is preparing to talk to you about it probably means that a replacement will be sought.
Yours for Christ's sake.
